If the federal government finds your workforce members unprepared to safeguard protected health information (PHI) during a compliance audit or complaint investigation, your organization faces the prospect of large fines.
Training by experts is the only way to make sure that doesn’t happen. Ensure that everyone in your organization demonstrates uniform understanding of privacy and security requirements, and the consequences of a privacy or security breach.
Privacy Rule: “Standard: Training. A covered entity must train all members of its workforce on the policies and procedures with respect to protected health information required by the Privacy of Individually Identifiable
Health Information and Notification in the Case of Breach of Unsecured Protected Health Information Rules, as necessary and appropriate for the members of the workforce to carry out their functions with the covered entity.” 45 CFR 164.530(b)(1)
Security rule: “Standard: Security Awareness and Training. Implement a security awareness and training program for all members of its workforce.” 45 CFR 164.308(5)(i)
Easy from start to finish
Your workforce, including management and any unpaid volunteers or trainees, can take these secure, online courses at
their convenience. AMA HIPAA School courses always follow the same linear path from learning to testing in plain
language, and highlight the meaning of key terms and rules that everyone needs to know. AMA HIPAA School courses also
provide resources for trainees who want to know more. Your
Privacy and Security Officials can track your
organization’s progress toward HIPAA compliance with the Training standards. In addition, AMA HIPAA School can
provide documentation of training at any time if a trainee’s organization is the subject of a compliance audit or complaint investigation.
Records kept secure for 6 years
Upon completion of a course, each trainee will immediately see his or her test results online, and an email will
automatically be sent to the trainee and the designated Privacy or Security Official in the trainee’s
organization. The Privacy or Security Official may request a report of workforce member training status at any time. AMA
HIPAA School maintains a trainee’s records “for 6 years from the date of its creation or the date when it last was
in effect, whichever is later.”
